Happy Birthday to Me!

Yes, 62 years ago today I came into this world with a mission!! 62 years later, I'm still trying to figure out what my mission is!

I thought for awhile that maybe it was my creation of Minnie Pauz and being able to help so many women lighten their journey through you know what...but seriously, was that a mission or just an accident? Afterall, it didn't happen until I was 49, so what was the point of the previous 49 years?

I think of a mission as something you have planned for a long time and then you work towards a goal, knowing what the goal is--and then you accomplish the mission, right? My life hasn't got a lot to do with goals or planning, it's been mostly REACTING to circumstances that for a long time I thought were totally out of my control. That's truly one of the benefits of reaching this age....hindsight! NOW I can see that I was in control the entire time, just making stupid decisions.

So now, today, I'm going to set a new mission for approximately the next 30 years of my life. Considering it's the LAST 1/3 of my life I need to give it some thought and will post it later, but the first part of my mission I started 2 months ago when I started walking every day....to continue getting healthier as I grow older! I finally understand what it means to say "It's never too late to....."

To prove that, I SKIPPED 10 steps this morning on my walk!!

  1. Well Happy Birthday! You don't look 62 - I'm nearly 59 and look older than you do.
I think the point of the previous years you mention is the preparation for what comes next. :)

Happy Birthday, Dee! Sorry I'm a bit late. Congratulations on starting walking and sticking to it. I'm sure it's making a big difference in your physical and mental well-being.
    You are an inspiration!
Thanks for the hard work on Minnie-pauz too.
    Best to you, Dedene

  3. Dee, way to go! I know it is hard to start moving, but it's worth it! I suffered the same symptons as you and I tried everything, bioidentical hormone replacement, exercise, Jenny Craig, joined Lifetime Fitness and met with their nutritionist, went on the GI Index diet, and nothing worked, but I saw a interesting guy on Oprah and started following his advice and low and behold! WEIGHT LOSS! Who knew sugar could be so evil! and who knew it was hidden in everything we eat! I didn't know that all the "low fat" foods we ate, were loaded with extra sugar to make them taste better. I must tell you I can now sleep through the night and I feel so much better. It has been a 5 year struggle and if you count perimenopause, 10 years, but I feel like I see the light! Good luck! Oh and Jose Cruise, is his name and he has a special diet for women over forty, cause he found that they were the ones having trouble losing the weight, duh!!!!! LOL

  5. Thanks, Ann....yes, I'm still walking (since March 15) and have lost 17 lbs along the way. I've also gone back to a low carb diet since being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I'm hoping to keep it under control with diet and exercise.

  6. Lots of people never got going on their "mission" till later in life - sometimes we need the life experiences under our belts to make things work. Harland Saunders (of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame) didn't start that business until he was in his 60s. Many whom we consider financially successful, were penniless and bankrupt first - but we don't remember that. Every time I read something you have written - I wonder what corner of my house you were hiding in, as it feels like you are writing from my heart. Keep up the great work!
